SONG WEEK!!!

Take a stab where I am right now.... come on guess!!!! Damn, you got it right, I'm in math class! Lol I love this unit so very much because I'm done and don't really care about the fact that I can't figure out the stupid guess in check.... oh well, I'm sure I will figure it out when the time comes =) So, now I have to think of a meaningful topic to talk about.... uh.... This is almost harder than actual math! Ok maybe not... oh oh oh I got another song for everyone! I think I shall rename this week song week! This used to be my favorite song ever!!! I just found it on my Ipod again.... and when I get off the school computer's I can put a youtube video up, but it's blocked on these computers!!!! Urgh! Anyway here, I will explain it after =):

Letters to the President, By Hawk Nelson

When we were younger we used to sit on my porch
And talk smack about girls and professional sports
There's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way

(One) take a good look at all of our high schools
this is the first reason that I want to write you
it must be tough when society is messed up
Gotta save money, please don't take it out on us

Do they even know? Do they even know?

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
But for now I won't say nothing

Now that we're older a brand new story unfolds
About God and the laws that we've always been told
And there's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way

Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left

Do they even know? Do they even know?

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something

Take a good look at Tommy, he's a track star
Good role model, has a chance to go real far
Then the school made a budget-cut
Cut out the track team
Now instead Tommy is a crack head

Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony, and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left

If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something (Woah, Woah)
As for now I'll start with something

Ok, now I am going to completely analyze this song in the way I see it now. First it talks about just growing up and being a little bit hesitant about going further into life. Then  it explains how in the states, when money is short they stop funding high schools. If he could write a letter to the president, these are some of the things he would say. Then how growing up is so hard when your trying to fit in. It goes on to explain that the government is not really noticing how many imperfections the world is growing up in. It says same-sex marriage, which I don't really agree with. I guess if that is what some people want to do, it's their choice. "Murder is wrong but the jail times not fair" Ok, so I guess this would be true if it wasn't on purpose, like 2nd degree or whatever the degrees are, or if your mentally ill or something and then get better. But, if you had planned it and went out and did it, especially more than once, then you deserve a life sentence! I know the side that says, "well, one life's already gone, but why waste another in jail?" But you didn't just kill the person. You killed the entire family. Did you know, if their children are killed, the parents have a higher divorce rate? They can't deal with the grief. And the person probably had friends, or even just people they knew. So, if you commit murder, in my opinion, you kind of deserve a life sentence.
Next line is "Not to mention date rape, felony, and car theft" Yeah, these things happen too. Lots of bad things happen in countries where they make things to kill people (ex GUNS!!!!) I hate guns. They scare me to death. If I had to choose I number one fear, as of yesterday, it would be guns. I have absolutely decided that a gun is more of a threat to me that a whale or a bird. But, to look on the bright side (Jennifer how could you?!?!) but, there are more kids dying in third world countries than murders and thefts here. But I do agree, they make the places we live in scary and should NOT happen!
And my favorite part of the song (drumroll please.....) Is this line!!!: Take a good look at Tommy, he's a track star (so, he has worked hard for the past how ever many years to gain that...) Good role model, has chance to go real far (yeah, I'll say!! scholarships.... awards....) Then the school made a budget cut, cut out the track team (so, however many kids were on that team just lost inspiration) Now instead Tommy is a crackhead: =0.... My favorite part of the song. Because it's so true! And people don't often realize that. I, myself, cough cough ok this is hard for me to say.... Uh, if it wasn't for basketball.... or cross-country..... or music....  I would have gone that way too. I think. Possibly. Ooooh I'm really nervous about posting that.... Just ignore it, I just had to say it!!!! So, that's why this was my favorite song. That verse, just gets me every time. People don't often realize the amplifications of their actions. Like that could have happened because somebody decided to do all there work under the table so they didn't have to pay taxes... and when enough people do that, then the money in taxes the government gets goes down, so they can't fund schools as much as they do, so the school can't afford "luxuries" like a track team. Which means more kids go into drugs, requiring more police, and more jails, and more jail guards, and so on. Anyway, that's all I have to say. That only took like 45 mins to write!!! Damn, another half an hour of math class. Well, feel free to post what you thought. It's not like I have anything better to do lol. Wait, I have exams in less than a week... AHHHH I BETTER GO!!! SEE EVERYBODY LATER!!! =)
